With the holidays approaching as fast as a freight train, your email will be hit by several offers for free gift cards, incredibly good deals, and "click here" to save offers. But usually these are really too good to be true.

During the holidays it'll look like Target or Best Buy are sending you an email with a special offer but unless you've signed up to receive emails from those companies, you don't want to click on any links." - Jessie Schmidt, State Director for South Dakota, of the Better Business Bureau

How do I know what's legit and what's not?

The South Dakota Better Business Bureau has a new website that is a powerful tool in helping make the right decisions. It's called Scam Tracker and it monitors emails, call, mail, and reported scam attempts in every your area.

Yesterday there were about 6,800 scams that had been populated and this morning there are already over seven thousand."  - Jessie Schmidt

Using the zoom feature on Scam Tracker, you can see which scams are popular in your area and how much money has already been lost. For instance, a "free loan" scam, a fake lottery scam, and a debt collection scam, and even an IRS imposter have already been reported in the Sioux Falls area.

It;s an extra weapon that people can use when scams are at an all-time high.
