Summer is here and even though it is definitely my least favorite season- - because I hate heat, humidity, bugs and lawn work, I'm here to help make your summer more fun and less expensive!

Some of these ideas were poo-pooed by a certain person of the male gender, (Ben), I decided to share them because one of our dear friends, Heather, asked me to.

  1. Make your own bug repellent, you'll save some bucks and you'll know what's in it, especially if you're concerned about using DEET on your kids.

Here is a recipe from Katie who blogs at wellnessmama.com:

  • Fill a spray bottle halfway with distilled water, then fill the other half with witch hazel
  • Add 1/2 teaspon of glycerin
  • Add 30 to 50 drops of essential oils, pick natural mosquito repellents like citronella, clove, lemongrass, tea tree, cedar, lavender or mint. The more drops you use the better the mosquito protection.

Okay that is my favorite suggestion. For the rest of your summer gear like; sunglasses, sunscreen, pool toys, swimsuits, and towels, think discount or dollar store. Really. Most of these items don't vary in quality much, but do vary greatly in price depending on where you purchse them and what brand names you can't live without.

Now, have a great and maybe, a little less expensive  summer- - if you like that kind of thing!
