SIOUX FALLS, SD -- The Sioux Falls Canaries scored early and often while Kyle Ruwe tossed a complete-game shutout en route a 9-0 defeat of the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Canaries veteran Nick Van Stratten went 3-for-5 and finished a double shy of the cycle with three RBI.  In the second inning, he socked a two-run triple, his 10th of the year, for a new team single-season record. Van Stratten surpassed previous record-holders Tyrone Pendergrass (2003) and Patrick Reilly (2008).

Van Stratten’s first hit was a leadoff home run in the first inning, his fourth of the season that sparked a three-run first inning rally.

Cory Morales followed with a triple and scored on J.P. Ramirez’ sacrifice fly, and Jared Clark added a big fly with a solo home run, his 14th this season.

The Canaries (19-32) tacked on four more runs in the second inning and added singletons in the third and fifth for their first shutout win of the year.

Ruwe (5-5) used 113 pitches but worked efficiently in the two-hour-and-16- minute ballgame, scattering just five hits. A leadoff man reached just once, and Ruwe worked with multiple runners on base just once. He notched his second complete-game of the year.

Canaries rookie Kevin Dultz had a career night, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run, just the second of his young career. Morales also had three hits with an RBI.

Lincoln starter Matt Bywater (2-3), freshly activated from the disabled list, lasted just three innings and suffered the loss. He allowed eight runs, six earned, and nine hits while walking two and striking out one.

The two teams split a four-game series, and the Canaries improved to 5-3 in July.

The Canaries open a four-game series against the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday at Sioux Falls Stadium.
