Fred and Wilma Flintstone. Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound. Bugs Bunny. Mickey Mouse.

And Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle Moose.

I'd say if you asked a little kid in the 1950's and 1960's (and beyond, for that matter) who their TV heroes were, those names would have at the top of the list. And now we've lost Rocky.

The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show originally aired from 1959-1964, but that doesn't even begin to tell the story. Rocky and Bullwinkle (Oh, and their friends like Boris and Natasha, those fun evil-doers) re-ran for years and years on Saturday Morning television.

But more importantly perhaps, they re-run over and over and over in the imaginations of little kids....little kids that may be well into their 60's and 70's today.

But as mentioned, we've lost Rocky. Or rather, the voice of Rocky.

Did you know Rocky was...get ready for it...a girl?!! Or more properly, a lady.

June Foray was the voice of Rocky (And Natasha and Nell Fenwick, too). In fact, if you've loved cartoons over, say, the past 70 years or so, you've heard the exceptional voice work of June Foray. You can read about her incredible career here.

June Foray passed away at the age of 99 on June 26, 2017. That's right, Rocky the Flying Squirrel certainly had a long life. But even more importantly, he (she) brought an everlasting joy to kids around the world. And those kids even now, with their gray hair (or no hair at all!) will forever remember Rocky and his best pal Bullwinkle.

Thank you Rocky. Thank you June. May you Rest In Peace.
