Friday's Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together telethon on all of the NBC networks raised $23 million for the American Red Cross' relief efforts in the wake of what is now being called Superstorm Sandy. The one-hour telecast featured performances by some of the biggest names from the New York-New Jersey area including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, who has an apartment in Manhattan, New York-born and raised Steven Tyler, Christina Aguilera from hard-hit Staten Island, New York, Mary J. Blige, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg and others.

Peggy Dyer, chief marketing officer for the American Red Cross, says, "We are incredibly grateful and humbled by this outpouring of support for those who are suffering as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Our preliminary results of nearly $23 million raised are an extraordinary example of how the American people pull together in times of disaster. Their generous donations will go directly to those in need, and we urge the public to continue to give."
