Riding with Sioux Falls Police Officer Ryan Chase
Around 6 p.m. on Friday, I met up with Sioux Falls Police Officer Ryan Chase. Chase was one of 16 extra officers on duty from Friday evening through early Saturday morning.
Chase was a part of the city wide saturation patrol.
"We're going to start hitting the bars in the main areas and we'll get a lot of the drunk drivers. We'll see what the night brings from there."
Chase says the saturation patrol produces results!
"People see us out here quite a bit. I think it sends a message that people need to drive more safely. We are out here making stops and arresting individuals for driving while intoxicated. I think a lot of people that go to bars, the more officers they see doing these type of things, the less likely they are to drive drunk themselves."
Aside from picking up impaired drivers, police officers with the saturation patrol ticketed drivers for seat belt violations and speeding.
