Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot" comes to South Dakota to investigate sighting near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The team meet with Lakota Sioux to gain access to investigate reports of Bigfoot activity.

This caught me by surprise as I'm sure it did you, too. Bigfoot made his way to South Dakota? The further I looked into the reported sightings, there have been more than just a few. The region has a long tradition of Bigfoot encounters.

In recent years, since the mid-1990s, this Oglala band of the Lakota Sioux area has been visited by at least one specific Bigfoot, said to be seven to nine feet tall, with footprints measuring 18 inches long and 7 inches wide. It walks upright with a slight bend in its back.

Bigfoot sightings in South Dakota peaked in late July, 2006 when the Reservation Police had a difficult time keeping up with and responding to the calls from several witnesses who all claim that an extremely tall, hairy, being was spotted running across properties or into the woods. In one case, one officer radioed back to headquarters on his radio stating:

You guys should see him. Man, he’s big.”

Then, on July 28, 2006, another report of an extremely large individual is heard on a police scanner, peering once again in the windows of house and buildings. Around 11:30 pm, an officer talked to the reporting party, and was told the creature’s head was even with the gutter of the building. The witnesses were clearly frightened, according to the police report.

Then there is this video filmed in 2012 in South Dakota. Said one viewer: "If it's fake, it's a damn good one."

This Sunday night on Animal Planet, the team meets with witnesses from the Lakota Sioux, who claim 'Bigfoot' roams the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. After zeroing in on a hotspot, the team just might find the Lakota's legendary Tall Man.

The episode, "Badland's Bigfoot", airs Sunday, February 10th, at 9pm central, on Animal Planet.
