It's hard to believe but it's true!  There are 262 homeless veterans in Sioux Falls.  Vietnam-Era Veteran Chuck Albrecht says the number comes from the Veterans Administration.

In Chuck's words, "If a veteran is living in their car, if a veteran is living with friends, if a veteran is living with family be it sister, brother or parents, if a veteran is literally sleeping on a park bench---those are all areas the V.A. considers homeless."

In an effort to reach veterans, Chuck says Veterans Stand Down 2013 will be held on Friday, September 20th at the VFW in Sioux Falls.

"We're getting the veterans off the battle on the streets of this town.  We are giving them a reprieve for one day.  But, more than that we give them additional information to help them in the status they are in so that can continue not only in that day---but the days after.  I volunteer at the Sioux Falls Vet Center.  It's a program that reaches out to Veterans."

Veterans Stand Down 2013 is an outstanding program here in Sioux Falls.  The intensive service fair for homeless Veterans and their families offers a daylong respite from the streets and a real opportunity to get their lives back on track.
