The use of a re-enactment video was a point of contention in the recent George Zimmerman murder trial, and the same could be said about a trial in Chamberlain, South Dakota.

According to the Daily Republic newspaper Judge Bruce Anderson will allow prosecutors to use a video re-enactment as evidence in the murder trial of a man accused of killing a Mitchell woman.

In March 36-year-old Kent Davidson allegedly shot 26-year-old Crystal Schulz in the head with a shotgun. Her body was eventually discovered in a shed at her mother’s Chamberlain home. According to documents Davidson and Schulz were engaged and that he killed her because she wanted to end the relationship.

According to those documents, the video was recorded during a law enforcement interview with Davidson. It depicts Schulz — played by a female South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation agent — being shot from behind, falling to her knees, then falling face down and being shot again from behind.

Davidson acts as himself in the video — using a yardstick in place of the shotgun he allegedly used to kill Schulz — and describes “the alleged location, angle and distance the gun was pointed and discharged,” court documents say.

Clint Sargent, Davidson’s defense attorney filed a motion to prevent the use of the video at the trial, but was denied.

Davidson pled not guilty to first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter and possessing a firearm while committing a felony.
