Less than four months before South Dakota State's new 19,340 seat football facility hosts its' first game, preparations are underway for one of the final pieces of the construction puzzle, the turf installation at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Crews began the process this week, readying the $65 million stadium for the soy-based AstoTurf playing surface. The turf should be in place by late July.

According to Jeff Holm, SDSU's Senior Associate Athletic Director in charge of facilities, the turf is the same material currently being used at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The only difference is the stadium turf will have perforations in the backing for drainage purposes.

Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium opens with the 'Jacks Bash' kickoff event, Thursday, September 8, with a concert featuring country music stars Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, and Lee Bice.

The Jackrabbit football team will play their first game at the stadium Saturday, September 10, with a 6:00 PM game against Drake.
