The Sioux Falls Police Department was dispatched to 4700 West 41st St. #1 in Sioux Falls for a domestic disturbance after 9:00 PM Thursday night.

According to our news-gathering partner KDLT News and Sioux Falls police, a female victim had contacted a family member to report that she was being abused by her husband. The victim also reported that her husband was suicidal and armed with a high powered rifle and a shotgun. The family member contacted 911 to report the incident to police.

Upon arrival, officers were able to get the victim to exit out of the apartment safely. Police learned that the suspect had pointed the rifle at the victim and had threatened to kill the victim.

The officers began evacuating surrounding residences and businesses due to the nature of the weapon involved.

The Sioux Falls Police Department SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Unit responded to take over the incident from uniformed officers. As the SWAT team was getting into place the suspect exited his apartment unarmed and surrendered to members of the SWAT team. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was identified as 43 year old Ronald Haugen of Sioux Falls. He was lodged in the Minnehaha County Jail on one count of aggravated assault domestic. He was also placed on a 24 hour mental health hold.
