Meet 79-year-old Flo Meiler: She’s a grandmother to five, a great-grandmother to two, and she’s also a record-breaking, pole-vaulting, hurdle-jumping track and field star. In total, Flo holds 15 world records and 12 U.S. records – not bad for a woman who picked up pole vaulting at 65!

She recalls, “I was playing tennis for the senior Olympics and my training partner came over and said, ‘We need people in track and field’ … The year afterwards, I competed for the first time.” So what’s her advice to other seniors looking to try something new? She says, “I keep telling them it’s never too late. If I can take up track and field at 60, anybody can take up another sport at age 50 and up.”
