PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Pierre Regional Airport is hosting the grand opening of its new terminal on Friday afternoon. City, state and federal officials are expected to attend the event marking completion of the $12 million project.

Officials say the old terminal was experiencing groundwater issues in the basement and was not designed to incorporate a Transportation Safety Administration security checkpoint.

Airport Manager Mike Isaacs says staff has been moving files and equipment from the old terminal to prepare for the opening. TSA moved its security equipment to the new terminal Tuesday.

Preliminary work began in 2010, while construction of the terminal started in 2011.
