WASHINGTON (AP) - A person close to David Petraeus' biographer Paula Broadwell says she is devastated by the fallout of her affair with the former CIA chief.

The friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, says Broadwell deeply regrets the damage that's been done to her family and everyone else's, and she is trying to repair that. Petraeus resigned over the affair.

Broadwell is back in Charlotte, N.C., with her husband, Scott, and their sons after more than a week of being hounded by media in Washington.

Broadwell is still being investigated by the FBI, which uncovered the relationship after tracking anonymous emails Broadwell allegedly sent to Tampa socialite Jill Kelley, warning Kelley to stay away from Petraeus and Afghanistan war commander Gen. John Allen.
