Two pedestrians died and the driver of the vehicle that hit them was seriously injured in a crash at the junction of U.S. Highway 18 and S.D. Highway 46 near Pickstown on Monday evening.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, 28 year old Ronald Fischer, Jr. of Lake Andes, S.D., was driving a mini-van on Highway 18. Fischer failed to stop at the intersection with Highway 46 and traveled into a private parking lot, where it struck two pedestrians and two parked vehicles.

Killed in the crash were Robert Allan Klumb, 46, of Pierre, S.D., and Maegen E. Spindler, 25, of Cazenovia, N.Y. Fischer was taken to a Wagner hospital and then transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.

Pickstown is a small community adjacent to the Fort Randall Dam on the Missouri River in southeast South Dakota.
