SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Sioux Falls Canaries manager Steve Shirley signed two rookies to the Canaries 2013 roster on Wednesday, catcher Kevin Dultz and reliever Tom Heithoff.

Dultz, 24, played briefly last season with short-season rookie affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Missoula Osprey.  He went 6-for-31 with a home run and four RBI in 23 games. Dultz signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent last year out of San Francisco State University. He is a native of Pasadena, Calif.

Heithoff, 26, returns to the Canaries after making his pro debut with the Birds last year. He went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 32 relief appearances in 2012, accumulating 44 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings pitched. Heithoff played collegiately at the University of Evansville where he emerged as one of the top closers in school history and earned All-MVC pitching honors. He hails from Carroll, Iowa.

The Sioux Falls Canaries begin their 21st season on May 16, 2013. Their home opener is May 17 against the Sioux City Explorers.
