In one of the most disturbing articles I've read in a while, two dogs were shot and killed in Brandon, South Dakota as they were chasing an injured deer.

These were not wild dogs, instead they were someone's pets.

Now this happened back on December 2nd, 2014 and according to Keloland.com, there will be no charges for the person who brutally shot two innocent dogs.

Jamie Anderson had her one year old dog living with her Aunt who has property in Brandon, SD.  On that December day, her Aunt called her in panic.  Both Anderson's dog Bentley and her cousins dog were missing.

Later, they found the two dogs, one dead and Anderson's Bentley just hanging on.  Bentley would eventually pass away as well.

The neighbor of Anderson's Aunt apparently had seen two dogs chasing an injured deer and fired upon the two.

My first question would be what idiot thinks it's appropriate to protect an injured wild animal over to presumed house pets?

My second question is why would anyone ever fire at two dogs who were clearly not presumed threats to the land owner?

My third question would be how in the heck can South Dakota have a law protecting someone in this case?  I can certainly see the law protecting someone who was being chased by two dogs and had to protect themselves, but to protect a deer, that is so laughable, it becomes sad!

Something needs to change.  The individual who committed this crime and it should be a crime, should be jailed.  If we lock up those who malicious fight dogs with no regard for their life, a individual who acts with no malice towards pets in the name of protecting a wild animal such as a deer should spend sometime behind bars figuring out how the rest of America acts like civilized human beings!

Protecting yourself or family from dogs isn't the issue here folks, so don't jump to that argument to try and justify this crime.  What happened here was someone trying to make a point about the power of "their land".  I would be willing to bet the individual saw it as an opportunity to use "his rights" for something that is totally unspeakable!

My heart breaks for Jamie Anderson.  Dogs get out, accidentally they do.  I have three and if one of them took off after a injured deer not only would I expect that as their nature, I would be devastated if some careless fool shot one of them.
