For the first time since 2011, The Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium will soon have elephants. Hard to believe that one of the best zoo's in the world hasn't had elephants for the past couple of years but six new African elephants will move into the zoo’s new elephant holding building in the African Grasslands portion of the zoo. The building be about 29,000-square-feet making it one of the largest of its kind in North America.

According to the Omaha Herald, zoo officials have been looking for the past three years trying to find the right ones, traveling all over the world in search of available elephants that were free of contagious disease and provided optimal breeding partners.

The new elephant holding building is set to be completed sometime this fall or winter.
