Living in the Midwest, we have all grown accustomed to watching for deer as we drive.  And now, data collected from State Farm has proven that drivers in the U.S. have about a 1 in 169 chance of hitting a deer while driving.  But, that number usually increases during the months of October, November and December.

Breaking it down state by state, West Virginia is at the top of the list for deer-vehicle collisions, with a 1 in 39 chance of a motorist hitting a deer.  Rounding out the top 3, Pennsylvania is at number 2 with a 1 in 71 chance and Montana is number 3 with a 1 in 75 chance of a deer-vehicle collision.

Closer to home, Iowa is on the list at number 4, with a 1 in 77 chance of a deer-vehicle collision and South Dakota ranks fifth, with the chance of a driver hitting a deer estimated at 1 in 82.

Minnesota is on the State Farm list at number 8 with a 1 in 88 chance, North Dakota is number 16 with a 1 in 120 chance and there is about a 1 in 148 chance of a driver hitting a deer in Nebraska.

Looking for a good reason to move to Hawaii?  Here it is.  For the 8th consecutive year, the state that many consider the "perfect place to live" has the least chance of a deer-vehicle collision.  The odds?  1 in 10,281.
