If you spent time outside on the Fourth of July in Sioux Falls, you likely saw and heard fireworks that could have been against city ordinance of Sioux Falls, yet no tickets were handed out over the weekend for fireworks violations.

Officer Sam Clemmons with the Sioux Falls Police department revealed the number of calls of fireworks complaints was typical for what has been scene in the past.

July 3, 2015 brought in 54 fireworks complaints, July 4, 2015 crested at 137 calls and July 5, 2015 had 76 calls received by police.

Police use their discretion to give a warning first or immediately write a ticket if they respond to a call about fireworks.

Only two fireworks violation tickets have been written this year, both of them separate incidents in February 2015.  Typically a few tickets are written each Fourth of July weekend for violations, ranging anywhere from three tickets in 2011 to 11 in 2012.  The fine is $95.00
