Nikki Sixx Joins NOH8 Campaign

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx has joined the growing ranks of rock 'n' roll veterans who have come out in support of same-sex marriage, recently posing for a photo with his fiancée, model Courtney Bingham, for the NOH8 Campaign.

A charitable organization founded in the wake of California's passage of Proposition 8 (the legislation that banned same-sex marriage in the state in 2008), NOH8 seeks to "promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media and visual protest." It's arguably best known for the series of photos created by its co-founder, photographer Adam Bouska, in which celebrities symbolize the silencing effect of Prop 8 (among other similarly minded legislative acts) by posing with duct tape over their mouths and the NOH8 logo on their faces.

Sixx follows a long line of public figures who have joined the campaign, including Slash and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss. "Courtney and I believe in freedom of choice, no matter your sex," Sixx explained in a message accompanying the photo. "We believe you should be able to be yourself, love who you want and not be criticized for it. We believe in LOVE!"
