New Service Blocks Bot Calls

New technology emerged earlier this week that can block robocallers. The service is called Nomorobo and works by channeling all of a user's calls through one of Nomorobo's online servers. Before the call even rings on the user's phone the service analyzes it to determine whether the call should go through or be blocked by comparing the number to a database of fraudulent numbers. The creator of Nomorobo, Aaron Foss, was one of two winners of a contest held by The Federal Trade Commission-- which receives about 200-thousand complaints of fraudulent phone calls a month. The service is free, but so far is only available to customers of five "Voice over Internet" services: Verizon Fios, AT&T, U-Verse, Vonage, Cablevision Optimum and SureWest.
