Myndee Kay Larsen: Why is Sioux Falls a Great Place for the Summit League?

Myndee Kay Larsen joined Jeff Thurn on Monday’s edition of Overtime live from the Summit League Tournament at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Larsen is Senior Associate Commissioner for the Summit League. She joined the Summit League in 2006 as compliance coordinator. She works as a liaison to head coaches committees and official coordinators.

Larsen is also a former Summit League player herself. She played for Southern Utah in the 1990’s.

Larsen discussed the comparisons between last year’s tournament and this year’s tournament:

“Well, the great thing about Sioux Falls, is the crowds are consistent. That’s been amazing, that hasn’t been anything different. They are basketball junkies, they come out and support us, and I think on the women’s side, what we are seeing is upsets. So, it goes to show the teams have really responded to bringing in a team like South Dakota State, with such dominance, and we got to get better and raise the bar. That’s makes the league better. So, today I think we showed there’s parity on the women’s side, and never know what is going to happen and seeds are just a number.”

Larsen on why the Summit League has found a home in Sioux Falls:

“I think it has to do with what I was saying before. They are just basketball people here, from the fans to to the volunteers. They just really rally around the event and the student-athletes, which from our aspect, is so rewarding. For them to come here and have a true championship experience and feel like they are the only show in town and they are what people coming to see. At the end of the day, that’s what it is all about, making sure we give them a good stage to showcase their hard work.”
