Mudcrutch, Tom Petty's pre-Heartbreakers band and current side project, will return with a new album and tour this spring.

Titled Mudcrutch 2, the new LP is due for a May 20 release, and is available for pre-order now. Pre-orders placed through the band's official site include instant downloads of three tracks, including the first single, "Trailer."

As previously reported, "Trailer" is also receiving a special limited-edition 7" vinyl release as part of this year's Record Store Day event on April 16. The "Trailer" single additionally features a B-side recording of Mudcrutch member Randall Marsh's "Beautiful World."

Songwriting for Mudcrutch 2 was a shared responsibility, with Petty penning seven of the record's cuts and the remainder of the track listing coming courtesy of solo compositions from Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon, Randall Marsh and Benmont Tench.

In support of the new album, the band has booked its first national tour, which is scheduled to begin in Denver on May 26. Tickets, which go on sale April 1, include a CD copy of Mudcrutch 2 — with the exception of the group's festival appearances at Summer Camp and Bunbury.
