People who live in the area of a proposed Walmart in southern Sioux Falls are getting more time. Mayor Mike Huether's office says the public hearing on the rezoning of the southwest corner of 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue has been changed from May 7 to the May 21 City Council meeting.

In a statement, the mayor says, "We need to do this right versus fast."

He says city officials, including the City Council, are listening, learning and working to find common ground.

The City is providing the additional two weeks to continue discussions with neighbors of the proposed development and to allow more time to complete a traffic study of the area.

The recently-annexed land at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue is currently zoned agricultural, but it's being considered for rezoning to office and commercial lots, including a proposed Super Walmart.

Some residents in the area have voiced opposition to the proposed commercial development.
