SIOUX FALLS - The Minnehaha County Detoxification Center put on probation last year has re-earned state accreditation.

County commission administrative director Ken McFarland tells the Argus Leader that the 16-bed detox center received a 92 percent on its recent state inspection.

The Department of Social Services, which accredits substance abuse programs, placed the facility on probation in October and temporarily prohibited new patients after current and former employees there cited a number of safety problems.

Weeks later, a 48-year-old woman was found unresponsive with a toxic level of rubbing alcohol shortly after being admitted. Her death was ruled a suicide.

McFarland and other county officials were vague about what changes were made.

The center allows people with substance abuse issues to sober up during a 48-hour stay.
