Chances are if you ever spent any time in rural America where there are more wild animals and livestock than people your broadband connection was iffy at best.

That’s about to change soon for some states including South Dakota.

This is really good news for millions of people who will now get connected.

Microsoft wants to connect two million rural Americans to high-speed wireless broadband by 2022, and it will get started with 12 pilot projects over the next year. The company is also offering free access to its intellectual property to help the rest of rural America get connected.

The 12 states are South Dakota, Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, New York, North Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
