On Mother's Day 2015 A tornado hit the city of Delmont, South Dakota around 10:45 AM that Sunday morning.

The city of Delmont was devastated.  The town has been almost totally evacuated and declared a disaster.

Sioux Falls National Weather Service Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp has filed a preliminary assessment of the tornado's strength.

Although there were injures in Delmont tornado, thankfully no one was killed.

Todd Heitkamp, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, conducted an official Damage Assessment in Delmont, SD on Sunday afternoon.

Todd stated, "the town of Delmont took a direct hit from the tornado, which resulted in significant amounts of damage to the town and outlying areas. As significant as the damage was, thankfully no one lost their lives. People heard the warning and took shelter."

The tornado was rated as an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which means the winds were approximately between 120 and 130 mph.
