I once saw a quote by Susan Gale that said, "Women can never have too many shoes, and men will never understand why". I often have this discussion with my husband, who just doesn't understand that I can tell the difference between "this color red" and "this other red" and that even though they hurt my feet, if they look cute, I'm still going to wear them.

Ladies, you could have more, or maybe even less than, but according to the website GoCompare.com, the typical woman owns about 19 pairs of shoes, including three pairs of high heels, three pairs of boots, two pairs of comfortable work shoes, six pairs of flip-flops, six pairs of flats, six different pairs of wedges or sandals (no, flip-flops don't fall into this category).

But even though those numbers may seem high, the typical woman will also purchase (on average) an ADDITIONAL seven pairs of shoes every year. With all of these shoes already on the bottom of the closet or stuffed into a shoe rack, that brings the dollar total that a woman will spend on her feet into the thousands. GoCompare.com estimates that a woman will spend about $25,000 on shoes in her lifetime. Now remember, there is a good chance that number could be higher, depending on the brands of shoes that are purchased, like shoes that carry the name Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik.

The love of shoes doesn't just stop at a lady's own closet, however. Four in 10 women have confessed that they judge another woman by the shoes on her feet.

And proof that the Susan Gale quote from above hits close to home for women, 25 percent of the women in the GoCompare.com survey that discusses a women's shoe buying habits, said they keep their shoe purchases a secret from their husband or significant other - because they just "wouldn't understand".
