Tony Rohr will be forever known as the man who stood up to “the big man” for what he believed, and he claimed it cost him his job as a Pizza Hut manager.

The Elkhart, Indiana resident has worked at the local restaurant for 10 years before this weeks memo came down from the head office stating that, “a Thanksgiving opening was mandatory.” After that, Rohr met with his supervisors and took a stand, saying he wouldn’t open the branch he managed.

Then, he says, his bosses asked him to write a letter of resignation, which he also refused to do.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they’re closed in the whole year and they’re the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families.” – Tony Rohr, WSBT-22 interview

After refusing to sign the resignation letter, he wrote a letter to the Pizza Hut ‘s upper management. It said,

I am not quitting. I do not resign, however I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company. I hope you realize that it’s the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible.”

WSBT-TV managed to speak to one of Rohr’s bosses on the phone who is the director of operations for several Pizza Hut locations in Indiana and Illinois. They said Rohr was not fired but that he quit.

Shortly after the letter made it’s rounds on social media, Pizza Hut sent CNN a statement that said the store has agreed to hire him back.

We fully respect an employee’s right to not work on a holiday, which is why the vast majority of Pizza Huts in America are closed on Thanksgiving,” the corporate office said in a statement. “As a result, we strongly recommended that the local franchisee reinstate the store manager and they have agreed. We look forward to them welcoming Tony back to the team.”

No word on whether Rohr will take his job back.
