Another major Sioux Falls street construction project finishes ahead of schedule. Two of the four that started on April 27 are now complete.

Early Friday afternoon the barrels were removed from 22nd Street and Minnesota Avenue. The goal was to rebuild the intersection itself plus one block in three directions.

The City of Sioux Falls says construction was completed nearly 20 working days early. Underlying reasons for the accelerated pace include favorable weather, minimal traffic control switches, and financial incentives offered by the City to the contractor.

In a press release, City Engineer Chad Huwe says, “The closure of 22nd Street allowed flexibility for the contractor to schedule work effectively, and both the City and the contractor wanted to expedite this project due to its impact on traffic. Thank you to the drivers and businesses for their patience during the reconstruction of this intersection.”

This marks the second project that received a reward for early completion. T & R Contracting Inc. of Sioux Falls earned an incentive payment of $30,000 for the early completion of this construction project. The project at 11th Street and 2nd Avenue was also completed early.
