The economic boost from the nine Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood concerts are a welcome surprise to an economy in Sioux Falls that had slowed due to sagging sales tax revenues.

Terri Schmidt from the Convention and visitor’s bureau says 108 thousand tickets were sold, and at the average amount spent per concert goer of $75, that equals 12 million dollars.

About a third of those attending the concerts will stay overnight. With a estimate of $150 spent per person on an overnight stay, more travel and tourism dollars will be spent in Sioux Falls, possibly 30 to 40 million dollars.

Schmidt says without the Denny Sanford Premier Center, these acts and the revenue they generate would not be booking shows in Sioux Falls.
