Sioux Falls Police responded to a call about a man with a machete and shots fired in the 900 block of North Minnesota on Thursday (August 13). Blood was discovered, but no victim or suspect was found.

Police began a search in the area of North Dakota and First street, just east of the initial location of the 911 call.  Police went door to door looking for a victim, suspect and more information.

A short time later, a call rolled over just east of the I-229 bridge on 18th Street and driver fled the scene with a gun. Argus 911 reported that a witness to the accident was asked to not call the police.

At this time, 18th Street over the I-229 bridge near Wegner is closed and authorities are going through the neighborhoods backing onto I-229 in their search. Police are also monitoring I-229 as well to look for anyone who could be fleeing.

Police checkied to see if the vehicle was stolen and believe the driver of the rolled vehicle and the man with the machete were the same individual. The description matched: a Native American Male, black shorts, no shirt and short hair.

A third area near 18th Street and S. Conklin Ave was being investigated, and police are determining if a crime unit needs to be dispatched to that area.

Police also checked to see if a postal employee may have seen anything on 18th street as witnesses say they saw a postal vehicle in the area.

In the meantime, some residents not aware of the action continue their daily routines, including watering their plants in their yards until they are greeted by officers who are searching the area.
