There's a group of Italian race car fans who can consider themselves the luckiest people in the world today after a rally car skidded off the road, flipped over and crashed right into them. Miraculously, the car and the debris narrowly missed them and no one was hurt. One woman was said to be treated for shock.

After seeing the story (and especially the video below!) I remembered an early morning driving just outside Rapid City, South Dakota where I was living in the early 1990s and doing an early morning talk show. I would leave for work at about 3am and go in search of a couple of newspapers (yes, this was the days before the internet!)

I was likely exceeding the speed limit a bit as it was in the middle of the night on a random Wednesday in October so I had the road to myself and was driving a little imported sports car, when up and out of the ditch popped not just a deer, but a whole family of deer. Dad, mom, and four 'kids' all decided to cross the road in a cluster right in front of me!

I locked up the brakes, turned the wheel and somehow only clipped mom's hind legs which spun her down, but she popped right up and was looking in my open window as I sat sideways at a stop in the road. We looked at each other shakily before she wandered off to join her family and I lit a handful of cigarettes. I made it to work and went back out after my show in the daylight to find no remnant of what had happened on my car.

I just kept thinking what would have happened if my reflexes had been slower. What if I had been going even faster (which I had on many occasions on that particular stretch of road) what if I had been looking down for my lighter?. On and on and on.

Check out the scary video below and realize that everyone was OK and tell us what your near miss story is.
