Los Angeles Lakers Fire Head Coach Mike Brown

According to multiple reports the Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Mike Brown after a 1-4 start.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak wanted to give Brown more time.

According to a Sports Illustrated report:

That report comes just hours after ESPN.com reported Brown’s job status hung on the Lakers’ performance during an upcoming 6-game home stand and just two days after Lakers executive vice president Jim Buss openly questioned whether Brown’s system was “flawed” and appeared to lay the groundwork for a possible coaching change.

The Lakers, despite entering the season with four potential All-Stars in their starting lineup and a $100 million payroll, currently possess the worst record in the Western Conference. Brown’s decision to implement a Princeton offense and the Lakers’ porous defense, ranked No. 22 in the league, apparently caught up to him.

Marc Stein of ESPN points out that the Lakers have had injury problems to start the season, but that apparently was enough of an excuse to save Brown's job.

The Lakers have had a healthy Steve Nash in the lineup for only 1½ of their five games so far thanks to a leg injury, while fellow newcomer Dwight Howard has acknowledged that he's still recovering from the back surgery that brought a premature end to his 2011-12 campaign and knocked him out of the London Olympics. Kobe Bryant has also been playing through a foot ailment.

Yet sources maintain that patience in the organization is starting to erode as the wait continues for signs of improvement in the Lakers' play.
