Two 18 year old Lincoln High School students have been arrested in connection with Vandalism and Petty Theft.  Addison John Park was not difficult to spot on the surveillance footage.  He's 6'8" on the basketball team and a recruit for Minnesota State Moorhead. Also arrested was Alex Everett Engel. Both were charged with third degree burglary and intentional damage to property in the first degree.  Park was also charged with petty theft for stealing backpacks.

Principal Valerie Fox is trying to process what happened.

When something like that happens you just, you don't even know what to think because you just throw your hands up and go 'Can you really be that stupid?'

Parents of Lincoln High Schools Students received the automated phone call and e-mails to notify the two hour late start for Lincoln High School on Wednesday May 6, 2015.  Vandalism was cited as the cause for the late start which has now scheduled for a 10:20 AM start.

Lincoln High School Junior Nick Christopherson says it's difficult to understand why they did it.

He's one of the tallest kids at Lincoln so I don't know what they were thinking. I think it was just kind of like innocent at first and just kind of turned bad quickly.

KDLT-TV reports that Sioux Falls Superintendent Dr. Pam Homan says the vandalism happened during the overnight hours, sometime between the time the evening cleaning crew left and the morning cleaning crew arrived to the school.

She says a good portion of the hallways were vandalized. Oil, spices, syrup and hand sanitizer were also strewn around the cafeteria, auditorium and common areas. Custodial staff have spent the morning in clean up mode.

Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens told KSOO's Jerry Dahmen that the majority of damage amounted to nothing more than a mess to clean up.

“We had some people that were able to get into the school. We are thinking it was between midnight and 3:00 AM," said Clemens. "Once inside, they really ended up just making a big mess. They took some spices and oils from the kitchen and spread that stuff around the floor. There was a table, cash register and a copy machine that were damaged. Not a whole lot of damage. Really they just made a big mess.”

Right now, Clemens says police are reviewing surveillance video from the school.

“We are working at who the suspects are. Once we are able to determine that, we can figure out some charges later on. School officials know a lot of the students. The school resource officers are also familiar with the students. There is a good chance we will figure out who they are.”

Clemens says a lunch table valued at $6,000 was damaged. A custodian called police around 5:00 AM when he saw what happened in the school.

An AP test that was scheduled for Wednesday morning will now be given at a later date. A subsequent AP test scheduled for Wednesday afternoon will go on as planned.
