John Lennon's first car, which he purchased the month he passed his driving test, was auctioned for $473,000 on July 12th. The azure blue 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Coupe was projected to initially sell for between $236,000 and $289,000 but then easily exceeded all expectations.

According to legend, upon hearing that Lennon passed his driving exam several luxury car dealers went to the Beatle's home with several exotic cars. Lennon eventually picked the Ferrari at a cost of $8,500.

Lennon drove the car and accumulate 20,000 miles on it until he sold the vehicle in 1967.
The vehicle was auction off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12th and contributed to the auction being the largest grossing auto auction in Europe ever with total sales of $47.3 million.
