The 2015 House Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee recently purchased a brick for $1,000 showing their support for the State Fair Foundation’s Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth and Community Capital Campaign.

Gov. Daugaard signed Senate Bill 46 on Feb. 19 providing the spending authority necessary to cover the full cost of the project.

Members of the 2015 House Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee include Rep. Thomas Brunner, Rep. Scott Craig, Rep. Dennis Feickert, Rep. Michele Harrison, Rep. Joshua Klumb, Rep. J. Sam Marty, Rep. Herman Otten, Rep. Kent Peterson, Rep. Lee Qualm, Rep. James Schaefer, Rep. Kyle Schoenfish, Rep. Dean Schrempp and Rep. Dick Werner.

Werner who is from Huron has special insight on the historical context of what this effort means. “If you think about where we’ve come on the State Fair from three to five years ago fighting to keep (the Fair) and now everybody voting in favor of a bill to build a building, we’ve come a long ways.”

Bricks are available to families and individuals who pledge $1,000 or more toward the Capital Campaign. Once the Nordby Exhibit Hall is built, the bricks will be placed in front of the exhibit hall.

Sen. Larry Tidemann, his wife, Gail, and their family of Brookings also showed their support for the Capital Campaign by giving a significant gift. The pledge is reported to be in the neighborhood of $10,000.

When built, the 48,000 square-foot Nordby Exhibit Hall for 4-H, Youth, and Community will feature more than 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H Special Foods competitions and a performance stage for the many 4-H activities that will take place there year-round.

The Foundation has just over $900,000 left to raise of its $4.7 million goal. Those interested in supporting the Capital Campaign through a brick or any other means should contact the State Fair Foundation at 605-274-3370 or visit www.sdstatefairfoundation.com.
