According to Forbes Magazine, the week between Christmas and New Year's Day is traditionally the best time of the year to buy a new car. More specifically, New Year's Eve they determined is the absolute best time to wheel-and-deal on a car.
The reason being, manufacturer's year-end promotions are in full swing, and car dealers are eager to cut deals and clear their stock, especially on the slow-selling models and last year's leftover inventory.
Eric Lyman is Vice President of Industry Insights at the website Truecar.
"Many automakers are pressed to reach year-end sales goals in December, and as such, consumers have plenty of opportunity to take advantage of fantastic deals. With special holiday and year-end sales promotions available, consumers seeking the largest percentage savings off MSRP for the year should consider pulling the trigger."
Unfortunately though, auto experts say that year-end bargain hunters might not find a particularly diverse inventory from which to choose. You may have to settle for a vehicle that comes in an odd color, or is equipped with features you might not otherwise prefer.
As dictated by the law of supply and demand, unpopular and overstocked models tend to be the ones offered up with the deepest discounts. But if you're okay with that - happy car shopping!
