A U.S. Supreme Court Justice will be making a stop in Sioux Falls in 2016.

On Monday, Augustana University announced that Justice Antonin Scalia will be the guest speaker for the 2016 Boe Forum on Public Affairs. That event is slated for 7:30 PM on March 9 at the Elmen Center, located at 2505 South Grange Avenue.

According to Harry Thompson, executive director of Augustana’s Center for Western Studies, the Boe Forum strives to bring in big-name speakers each year, who can offer an expert voice on current topics that have an impact nationally and internationally.

Scalia is scheduled to talk about the U.S. Constitution during his presentation at Augustana.

The University was able to help land Scalia through a friend of Peter Schotten, a professor of government and international affairs at Augustana.

Schotten said "Scalia is a historic judge, a provocative thinker. He is a legal theorist. Most of all, it gives our students an opportunity to interact with him, to ask him questions.”

Scalia, a native of New Jersey, has served on the Supreme Court since 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. He is the longest-serving judge on the nation's highest court.

His Sioux Falls discussion will likely be focused on whether the Constitution is a living document. Something Scalia has written a great deal about.

Justice Scalia joins an impressive list of speakers who have visited Sioux Falls for the Boe Forum. People like; President George H. W. Bush, Sandra Day O’Connor, Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell.

Tickets for the event are free, and can be reserved at augietickets.com.
