Joan Jett & The Blackhearts are back with their first new studio album in seven years. The new set, called Unvarnished, is being hailed by fans and critics alike as a return to form for Jett, who hasn't released a new album since 2006's Sinner collection.

Jett was asked what the holdup was on finally getting the new set finished and out to fans: "Well, y'know, there was a lot goin' on in between that time. Sinner came out in 2006, so we were probably out on the road through 2007, or so. I executive produced a movie -- The Runaways -- and that was done in 2009. And I was on set the whole time, so I just was completely not dealing with music. By this time, the Greatest Hits was in the works and that was coming out, so, we were on the road supporting that. Then the movie came out and there was press to do with that. Once that was all finished, then I started really focusing on writing these songs.
