Joan Jett and Starship To Play Sanford PREMIER Center Preview Show September 24
While the ‘official’ first show at the Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls is still country music star Jason Aldean in October, the city of Sioux Falls has announced plans for a number of ‘soft opening’ events for September including a concert on Wednesday, September 24th with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas.
Tickets go on sale this Friday (August 29) at noon at the Arena box office and all ticketmaster locations for only $10 (plus ticketmaster fees if you go that way)!
I’ve seen both Jett and Thomas in the past couple of years and can honestly say they both still put on a great show. Jett opened for Bad Company on a string of dates in the summer of 2013 when we caught the show in northern Minnesota. The winter before that, Thomas, along with Lou Gramm and Eddie Money, did a Christmas show at Grand Falls Casino where he stole the show with his vocals.
Prior to this past summer’s record-breaking RibFest, Jett had held the record for biggest crowd at a RibFest when she packed the Arena parking lot. She’s been a performer that we’ve talked about wanting to bring back for the past several years, so this is a great opportunity to break-in the city’s newest venue with some great classic rock. Hope to see a lot of you there and as you can see in the video below from this spring’s Golden Gods Awards (which Jett was honored with the top award, becoming the first female to receive it) she can still rock!
In addition, Mayor Mike Huether invites the public to the official ribbon cutting on Friday, September 19, at 4:30 p.m. Stay for the “Come One, Come All” open houses from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, September 19, and from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 20. Walk throughout the venue and enjoy discounted food selections from the concession stands, free entertainment, activities for the kids, and more. More details regarding the schedule of local entertainment will be announced in the next couple weeks. This event is FREE to the public.
