Kimmel Slams Leno Again, Accuses Him of Selling Out
Sigh, was there ever a time in our lives where the various hosts of late night TV weren’t in one feud or another? If there was, it probably wasn’t while ‘The Tonight Show’s Jay Leno was around. Following recent comments from David Letterman describing late night rival Leno as “insecure,” Jimmy Kimmel has launched an attack of his own on Leno in a new interview, describing the controversial host as having “sold out.” Hear more about the bitter rivalry inside!
When Jay Leno was granted ‘The Tonight Show’ over expected host David Letterman in 1992, a young Jimmy Kimmel never forgot how Leno had humiliated his personal hero. That rivalry has only gotten worse over the years, as now Kimmel has taken another swipe at Leno in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Kimmel, whose ABC show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ moves into a rival position at 11:35 p.m. next Monday tells Rolling Stone “As a comedian, you can’t not have disdain for what he’s done: He totally sold out.” Kimmel at least praised the comedian’s earlier career, adding “He was a master chef who opened a Burger King.”
The recent interview is far from the first dig Kimmel has taken at Leno, impersonating him once on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ Kimmel went on to praise his own perceived rival Jimmy Fallon, saying “People are going to compare me and [Fallon] for years to come. We’re being positioned as the Leno and Letterman of the next round. I like it because he’s a very worthy competitor.” Unsurprisingly Conan O’Brien is keeping out of this one.
What say you? Do you think Jay Leno has any good reputation left, with hosts bashing him left and right? Will Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel be the next great late night host? Sound off in the comments!
