In the documentary, Paul McCartney talks about the power of ELO’s 1977 Out Of The Blue album standout, “Mr. Blue Sky”: “I mean, I’m a sucker for sorta the hits, so ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ is a pretty special song. It’s probably the one that everyone would choose, so it’s a bit boring to choose it. But it is great. I mean, it just works — and it you’re in the car and it’s a nice day, it really works.”
Although McCartney had met Lynne in the ’70s and had long admired his work, it wasn’t until George Harrison nominated him to produce the Beatles’ mid-’90s Anthology reunion sessions that McCartney and Lynne ever recorded together: “I think it was George who said, ‘No, we need a producer, y’know, we. . . it could be dangerous just all going in the studio, it could get nasty.’ ‘Cause you got egos flying around, surprisingly.”
