One of the great things about JazzFest is the balance the event strikes between familiar and fresh each and every year.

The 2017 edition starts Thursday (July 13) at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls and a number of the key elements of the event are the same, beginning with FREE admission.

As always, the music is the star of the show, with great well-known acts like the Robert Cray Band and Jonny Lang headlining the main stage, Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The second stage will once again highlight some of the amazing local talent throughout the weekend.

But one of the things JazzFest is known for is pushing the envelope and showcasing unique talents and musical styles from around the country.

Thursday's headliner MarchFourth certainly fits that description.

This group from Portland, Oregon, features 22 musicians complete, with a drum line, stilt walkers, and acrobats. This is an act you need to see as much as you need to hear!

But there's so much more to JazzFest than just music. This year they're incorporating Zumba and yoga, plus a whole host of activities for the entire family.

For more on all of this, plus information on parking and the JazzFest app for your smartphone, I talked with Rob Joyce from the Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society:
