It's time to get your young hunter signed up so they can hunt in the fall!  And with a goal to teach young hunters how to safely handle firearms at home or in the field, the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks will be having a series of HuntSAFE courses. The May sessions will be held in Sioux Falls, Brookings, Garretson, Marion and Lake Poinsett.

The HuntSAFE (Safety And Firearms Education) courses are designed for hunters ages 12 to 15, but adults are also welcome and encouraged to attend.  Young hunters that are 11 years of age can attend the courses, but will not be able to receive their Hunter Safety certification card until their 12th birthday.  But, if a student's 12th birthday is on or between September 1st and December 31st, they may still be issued a Hunter Safety card and then they are able to get a hunting license and are able to hunt beginning September 1st of that year.

The HuntSafe course helps create safe, responsible hunters that are aware of South Dakota's hunting history, while developing a positive relationship between the hunter with the wildlife and the land being hunted.
