Is ‘Taken 3′ Already In the Works? ‘Taken 2′ Writer Tells All

'Taken 2' review
20th Century Fox

How many times can someone get taken before Liam Neeson is like, “I’m tired. Just sort this mess out amongst yourselves”? Maybe the third time’s the charm — at least that’s what we’re hearing from the writer of ‘Taken 2‘ in a new interview.

Word from critics is that ‘Taken 2′ isn’t very good, but the box office numbers often say more to executives than reviews. In an interview with Hollywood.com, ‘Taken 2′ writer Robert Mark Kamen discusses the film’s success and what it means for a follow-up. Kamen has worked with director Luc Besson for years (Besson only produced ‘Taken 2′) on projects like ‘The Fifth Element’ and the ‘Transporter’ series, but ‘Taken’ seems to have really — please forgive us — taken off.

When asked about a third installment, Kamen says he was skeptical, but it looks like it might actually happen based on the $49.5 million gross at the box office last weekend:

“We didn’t start talking about [Taken 3] until we saw the numbers,” says Kamen. “But then we said, ‘Oh, okay. I think we should do a third one.’ And Fox wants us to do a third one.” In the first Taken, Neeson’s character Bryan Mills’ daughter was taken. In Taken 2, he and his wife were taken. In Taken 3…. ” We’ve taken everyone we can take — it’s going to go in another direction. Should be interesting.”

Maybe in ‘Taken 3′ Liam Neeson can take someone out for ice cream, and everyone can just get along and stop taking things without asking.
