City Council Chair Dean Karsky announced on Monday the results of a recent citizen survey.

In January 2015, 3,000 randomly selected Sioux Falls residents received a survey questionnaire asking for their opinions about the city, and the results were very positive.

“Our citizens are very positive when it comes to Sioux Falls’ quality of life, and opportunities it has to offer,” said Karsky. “While there are always areas for improvement, I would not trade our results for any other community.”

Of the 3,000 surveys, 30 percent were returned. About 93 percent of respondents answered that Sioux Falls was an excellent or good place to live. Employment opportunities received 72 percent positive response making Sioux Falls number two when compared to 270 cities in the U.S.

“Regardless of income, geography, or age, there is a sense of optimism when it comes to living in Sioux Falls,” continued Karsky. “Our citizens recognize that they have a bright future in Sioux Falls.”

The current citizen survey also indicated areas in which the city has improved since the last survey in 2013. The areas that respondents felt improved the most included:

  • Travel by car.
  • Neighborhood as a place to live.
  • Overall direction of the city.
  • Bus/transit services.
  • A place to retire.

“I invite our citizens to continue this conversation with us,” added Karsky. “The success of our city is dependent upon the input and insight provided by those who call Sioux Falls home.”
