People will post just about anything on Facebook. Pictures of happy times, pictures of kittens and puppies doing cute things, recipes for friends to try and even words of encouragement and advice. But recently, police were called to a home in Dubuque, Iowa because a family member went to the social media page asking,

Does anyone know a family who would like to adopt a 4 year old girl?

The name of the family member being investigated for making the Facebook post has not been released, but an officer was dispatched to the home of the woman who was offering up a four-year old girl for possible adoption.

The Facebook post began by saying, "I need some help." and was posted to the private, 4,000 member DBQ Mamas Group in Dubuque, Iowa and was later re-posted by the local television station. The post also said,

Does anyone know a family who would like to adopt a 4 year old girl. My parents adopted her but got new jobs and they have no time for her. I have 3 kids of my own and can not handle another. Serious inquiries only.

After the adoption offer was posted on Facebook, Dubuque police received several calls which prompted an officer to be dispatched to investigate. It was then determined by the investigating officer that no criminal act had actually been committed, so no arrest was made and no charges were filed. The four-year old girl was checked on and appeared to be in no trouble and was able to stay with the adoptive parents.

However, after authorities became involved, the family member that made the original post, rephrased her post saying,

Let me rephrase. I’m not selling a kid, it was to help find adoption ideas. So calling the police to receive suggestions was ridiculous. She’s safe and fine. So thank you for your help.

It should come as no surprise, the Facebook incident is still continuing to stir controversy not only in the Dubuque, Iowa area,  but across the nation.
