Remember when April 15th used to mean something. Long lines at the post office. People standing in line with worried looks on their faces. People coming into the post office carrying piles of paperwork.

We used to have radio broadcasts from the post office. It used to be a big deal. We would bring doughnuts and other treats and hand them out to the poor souls that were coming in to drop their taxes off before the deadline. The way I look at it, the deadline is dead.

Oh, the IRS still gets their money. The difference now is technology. A couple clicks on the computer and boom. You either have money coming back in the mail or routed right to your bank account. It's changed it.

Sure, there are still accountants and lawyers who help people process taxes. What I've found is THEY are the ones to talk to, because THEY know the lay of the IRS land and can help you maximize your return.

But the internet has changed it. Car dealers and other businesses start campaigns as early as February trying to tempt early filers to spend their returns on their products.

The internet. It's changed the way we do many things. It certainly has changed the way we look at April 15!
